Contractor of Record (CoR) Pricing: What It Costs

A Contractor of Record (CoR), sometimes called an Agent of Record (AOR), formally engages and pays your independent contractors on your behalf — handling the contract, verification, invoicing, and payments — so you offload misclassification risk without employing the worker. Unlike an Employer of Record (which makes the worker a full employee), a CoR keeps the worker a contractor while making the engagement compliant.

CoR Pricing FAQ

How much does a Contractor of Record (CoR) cost?

CoR / AOR pricing is usually a flat fee per contractor per month, commonly in the ~$25–$100 range depending on provider and country, on top of the amounts you pay the contractor. It is typically much cheaper than EOR because there is no employer entity, payroll tax, or statutory benefits to administer. The table below shows real, sourced starting prices per provider.

What is the difference between a Contractor of Record and an Employer of Record?

A Contractor of Record engages the worker as an independent **contractor** and takes on the classification and payment compliance, while an Employer of Record makes the worker a full **employee** with local payroll, taxes, and statutory benefits. CoR is cheaper and faster but only appropriate when the working relationship is genuinely contractor-like; a full-time, directed role usually belongs on an EOR to avoid misclassification.

What does a Contractor of Record actually do?

A CoR signs the contract with the worker, verifies their status and right to work, collects invoices, and pays them compliantly in their local currency — while indemnifying you against misclassification for that engagement. It is the standard fix for paying overseas freelancers and contractors without setting up local payment or entity infrastructure.

When should I use a Contractor of Record instead of an EOR?

Use a CoR when the person is a genuine independent contractor — project-based, self-directed, working for multiple clients — and you want to pay them compliantly across borders. Switch to an EOR when the relationship looks like employment (full-time, ongoing, under your direction), where a contractor arrangement would be a misclassification risk.
