Amir Reiter founded CloudTask, the largest go-to-market talent marketplace in LATAM, and has staffed sales teams for Expensify, Apollo, RingCentral, and Vonage. On the Human Cloud Podcast he explains why the AI SDR is not working, what is working instead, and how to structure a revenue team for the next two years.
The AI SDR Is Not Working, and the Phone Is Back
Every revenue leader got the same memo in the last 18 months. Blast a million emails, automate LinkedIn, plug in an AI SDR, and watch the pipeline fill. Amir Reiter has watched hundreds of companies run that play through CloudTask, and his read is blunt: the AI SDR is not working, and the teams that are closing right now are the ones picking up the phone.
His explanation is a rule, not a trend. Whatever is easy stops working the moment everyone does it. Sending email at scale is easy, so inboxes went numb. Automating LinkedIn is easy, so every prospect can spot the bot in one message. The hard thing, a human having a real conversation at the right moment, is the thing nobody automated, which is exactly why it converts.
"Whatever's easy doesn't work. It's easy to blast emails, it ends up not working. And automating LinkedIn, you get these unpersonal messages and you respond back and it's clearly a bot." Amir Reiter
What CloudTask runs instead is unglamorous and fast. Watch who follows your competitors and start conversations with them. Call every positive reply back within five minutes. Call every ad lead back within 60 seconds. AI does the list building and the research. People do the talking.
"If you're gonna run ads, call them back within 60 seconds. If you're gonna run outreach and someone says, yeah, sure, I'm interested, call them back in five minutes." Amir Reiter
Nearshore Sales Team Structure: The Barbell Method
Amir started CloudTask on a simple observation. If you want the best salesperson in America you cannot pay $120K, you have to pay $180K, and most companies that are not Anthropic or Meta cannot do that across a whole team. Microsoft, Amazon, HubSpot, and Salesforce solved this years ago by building offices in LATAM. Smaller companies assumed they could not.
His answer is what he calls the barbell method. Pay 40 percent more than you planned for one exceptional leader in the US, then build the team underneath them in LATAM, where $50K to $60K a year gets you an A-player in the same time zone. A CTO in San Francisco with five engineers in Florianópolis. A VP of Sales in Austin with three SDRs in Medellín per account executive.
"If you're selling to the US, you need leaders in San Francisco, in Austin, in your offices, and then you scale teams to Latam." Amir Reiter
The structure changes with company size. A 10-person startup should run founder-led growth, hire an account executive who can prospect, back them with SDRs in LATAM, and not title a CRO until $15M to $20M in ARR. A 2,000-person company is building a center of excellence, the way HubSpot runs 400 people in Bogotá. A Microsoft is cherry-picking the 15-year veterans in those same cities who are selling billions of dollars of software on a $6K monthly base.
Contractor of Record vs EOR: Match the Agreement to the Person
The second question every nearshore buyer asks is how to engage the people. Amir's answer is that there is no single right answer, only a right answer per person. A five-person remote team does not need an employer of record. Run it through a contractor of record or vendor of record and keep it simple. The moment you open an office, or you are heading toward a public listing, the EOR becomes the right tool for the people in that office.
"A small team remote, you don't need EOR. A team in the office, you need EOR. And when it comes time to go to the office, some of your old team might want to stay remote and be on contractor of record and some of the new people that come to the office might be on an EOR." Amir Reiter
That flexibility is the point. The companies that get global teams right are not the ones with one policy for everyone. They are the ones who can give the right agreement to the right person and change it as the team grows.
Finding the Right Go-To-Market Partner Is the Hard Part
Here is what sits underneath everything Amir said. The constraint on growth was never a missing AI tool. It was access to A-player talent for the hard roles, and the hard roles are the ones that create demand. Sales opens the door. Customer success, engineering, and account management follow once the revenue is there.
That is the problem Human Cloud exists to solve from the buyer's side. A company that needs three SDRs in LATAM, an embedded recruiter, or a managed design team has hundreds of partners to choose from and no structured way to compare them. Human Cloud scores and compares staffing agencies, talent marketplaces, and EOR providers in one place, so a revenue leader can shortlist a partner like CloudTask, see verified business cases, and start the engagement in minutes instead of months. Amir gets companies A-players in Medellín. Human Cloud gets companies to Amir, and to the right partner for every other hard role.
Amir's view of what comes next lines up with ours. He is not in the camp that says AI is a farce, and he is not in the camp firing every rep for an agent. He already runs AI that reviews every call and coaches 100 reps each morning. His two-year prediction is that the next hire in LATAM ships with an agent attached.
"When people say I have AI, to me it sounds like I use a computer, I have a spreadsheet. I'm not impressed." Amir Reiter
The Bottom Line
The AI SDR did not fail because the technology is bad. It failed because it was easy, and easy does not differentiate. The revenue teams winning in 2026 are the ones who put humans on the phone within minutes of a signal, build the team with leaders in the US and A-players nearshore, and give every person the engagement model that fits them.
That takes a partner, not a prompt. Finding the right one is the part most companies still do slowly, and it is the part we are building Human Cloud to make fast.
