AI in Staffing Makes the Match Trivial, and That Changes Everything
For decades, the staffing industry has sold "the match" as if pairing a job with a resume were the hard part. Quentin Cloarec, Co-founder and CEO of Trees Engineering, has spent his career in that industry, and his verdict is blunt: AI in staffing has made the match almost worthless. A model reads a job description and a CV and returns a result in under a second. The keyword game is over.
From Kuala Lumpur, Cloarec built Trees Engineering into a talent platform placing specialized engineers on multi-billion-dollar energy, renewable, and data-center projects. He has been AI-native since 2021, back when his own staff asked him what AI even was. Now he is rebuilding the entire company around an AI agent that pre-qualifies candidates on WhatsApp, sources from Trees' own live database, and matches on what a person can actually deliver.

His practical advice follows directly: write a two-page CV for the human, and the rest for the AI. Make it a hundred pages if you want, because the model reads all of it in a second. A company still paying humans to read resumes, he says, is just paying its competitive delay.
The AI Recruiter Turns Sourcing Into a Live Database
If the match is free, the economics of screening collapse. Cloarec's example: a role gets 100 applications, and every one of them can be interviewed by an AI recruiter for roughly 10 cents each, a 15-minute conversation on a cheap model. Run an agent across a database of 10,000 CVs and a month later it reports back: I spoke with 8,000 people, 1,255 are available right now, 2,500 are available later.
That is the real unlock. Not a smarter resume pile, but real-time market intelligence about who is genuinely available this week. Sourcing stops being a cost center and becomes an always-on database.

The reason incumbents haven't moved, as host Matthew Mottola frames it, is the innovator's dilemma. A traditional staffing firm that embraces AI has to explain why it still deserves its margin, because its whole model is built on recruiter headcount and long-tenured placements. It has too much to lose. A specialized talent platform has far more to gain. That asymmetry is why platforms are years ahead.
Recruiters Become Community Managers
Cloarec's boldest prediction is about the people. He told everyone on his team the same thing: your job is no longer to source CVs or send emails. It is to build relationships. The mundane work, screening, chasing availability, matching, goes to an agent. What is left is the part only a human can do, read personality, sell a candidate, prep someone for an interview, know whether two people will actually work well together.

It sounds like a downgrade. He frames it as a promotion. Less of the work that was never made for a human, more of the work that only a human can do.
