Hey everyone,
Tomorrow we're meeting with 20 PE operating partners. Tony will be chairing Private Equity International, and we'll be hosting a dinner with operating partners across the US, Europe, and even Asia.
The question on the table is how PE rewrites the org chart for the agentic era. Below is my answer to them - what is yours?
Here's what stories stand out to start the week:
| - PE is buying the talent industry. 24 Seven closed its 14th acquisition. Unison Capital bought Japanese staffing roll-up Vision Craft. UPMC put money into VeloSource, a locum tenens agency.1,2,3 |
| - AI is running ahead of the risk. Insurers are hesitating to cover AI because nobody can price the risk yet.4 |
| - Demand for talent is back. US staffing hours hit a 2026 high, up 11% year over year.5 |

Here's how PE can rewrite the org chart:
We've been early in helping organizations take their talent strategy from fixed and fragile to flexible, fast, and resilient. It started with embracing contractors. Then it meant replacing staffing and agencies that weren't working with specialized sourcing solutions.
Then agents came. Now it's the journey from agentifying to augmenting to automating a company's workforce. PE is built to run that journey faster than anyone:
| 1. | Agentify the work. BayPine committed to deploying ChatGPT Enterprise to every one of its portfolio companies, and Penn Foster now runs AI voice agents for learner support.6 That's step one, not the finish line. |
| 2. | Augment with specialized talent. Agents need people who know how to use them. The new org chart is a lean core team, specialized sourcing solutions on demand, and agents in between. That also answers the insurance problem: when AI risk can't be priced, the hedge is the right humans. |
| 3. | Automate what's proven. You can't automate a workflow you haven't mapped. Flexible talent lets a portfolio company map and prove the work without adding fixed headcount it has to unwind before exit. |
Fixed headcount is the slowest cost line in a value creation plan. That's why PE will rewrite the org chart first.
Here's how Human Cloud is helping:
Yes, we grow the overall TAM of the flexible workforce by educating and converting companies from aware to investing in specialized sourcing solutions and EORs.
Deeper though, we curate the community of solution executives in the trenches, and this month we have an extra special community call.
It's extra special because we have two experts that I think every one of us need to meet with right now.
| - The first is Ian Davidson, former VP at ZipRecruiter, and he'll break down the science of candidate profiles. He'll talk with us about what worked at ZipRecruiter, what didn't, and how talent platforms should configure their profiles. |
| - Then we'll have Charlie McGinn discussing how EORs and sourcing solutions can partner to grow accounts. |
EOR and sourcing solution integration and partnership is probably a top 2 priority for every talent executive right now. They are two of the fastest growing segments in the talent industry, and they badly need each other.
Charlie will discuss how they're partnering with sourcing solutions and we'll all discuss how these partnerships can work.
Alright, here's to all you leaders making the world work,
- Matt
