Naked AI doesn't survive production
AI is working and productivity is leaping. But naked AI fails at judgement, context, and collaboration, and traditional talent models can't meet the hiring speed it creates. Why flexible talent solutions are the human layer to the agentic age.

Happy Monday! Every Monday I break down the top stories powering your week. If you want the hiring side analysis, check out Tony's newsletter.
Here's what I'm watching this week (Access all stories):
| • The one-person company is real. There is now a class of million-dollar businesses running with a single employee.1 | • Amazon blew past estimates on booming cloud growth. The AI spend is not cooling off, it is compounding.2 | • Anthropic disclosed that its own AI models were used to hack three different organizations.3 | • And US staffing hours just posted their strongest growth since 2022, up 9% year over year, with industrial up 16%.4 |
What's happening is that AI is working, and leading to astronomical leaps in productivity. BUT this productivity isn't without the human need, which is why AWS routes every PR through a human, why Ford brought back the "grey beards,"5 and why staffing is now recovering. Companies are realizing they need humans back.
I talked about this in a recent podcast episode. Specifically, I hit on the practical difference between code and production, and how production requires humans, and why YOU flexible talent solutions are the production solution no matter if you're marketing, software development, or sourcing electricians.
Here's what I think this means for the industry: We need to lean into being the human layer to the agentic age.
This edition I want to talk about naked AI. Have you heard the term? Naked AI is AI on it's own. Your personal Claude account. With connectors, MCPs, in browser access.
Naked AI is phenomenal for individuals. I'd argue my personal productivity has seen a 1,000% increase, not only in the volume, but the capabilities I can now do.
But Naked AI fails at judgement, context, and collaboration.
| • Have you tried sharing an AI skill yet? Or collaborating with a colleague on something you're using AI for? | • Have you received an OpenAI bill at midnight for $350 because a scraper didn't have the right guardrails? | • Or literally last night, a $127 bill because our AI evaluation benchmark randomly removed the filter to only evaluate 27 paying solutions and was in the middle of evaluating all 3,043 solutions now on the platform |
These are all things that you need real experts for. Not because AI can't, but because you can't. You don't have the time, the brainpower, or the expertise.
BUT traditional talent models can't meet the hiring speed and agility change that AI creates. Honestly this isn't unique to AI. This was true in Covid when companies overstaffed then laid off. But AI amplified what was already true - talent strategies built around fixed costs and permanence can't adapt to today's world of speed, agility, and change.
So where does that leave CEOs?
| • They know they need talent. | • They hope they can source through their existing networks (which most can't). | • But they don't trust nor want to go through the pain of rebuilding their talent strategy. And honestly they'd rather put innovation in the hands of technical and business leaders rather than talent leaders. |
Which is where you come in. You are so much better, that companies simply can't ignore it. And you're better for 4 reasons.
| 1. You're digital native, built using digital profiles and digital networks replacing recruiters and resumes. | 2. You're specialized, typically built by the exact buyer in a vertical that agencies or staffing firms couldn't service. | 3. You're transparent, everything from your take rates, to the individual profiles. Literally the best ones will show profiles of the exact individual, their prior experience, actual interviews they've had, etc. | 4. You started with tech, then built the service, the original "forward deployed" service in your exact niche. |
These 4 things make you the obvious choice over staffing and agencies. Now you just need to tell them. Again, then again, then again.
Here's how we help:
Obviously you know about the podcast. We have an incredible line up over the next month.
Hopefully you've seen our RFPs. A cool one for developers launched Friday night with a leading AI EdTech company.
And next week I'll run you all through how we're using AI agents ourselves for everything from software development, to sales, to automating 97% of the newsletter you're reading right now. I'm not kidding when I tell you it took me 33 minutes last night to write this (it used to be 5-10 hours).
All right everyone, cheers to a great week!
