Ford Trades AI For Grey Beards (why this is only HALF the story)
Ford rehired the engineers it had replaced with AI, jobless claims hit their lowest since 1969, and consolidation keeps accelerating. Why AI is only half the answer, and flexible talent is the other half.

Welcome to this week's edition. As part of our rebrand, Mondays are for getting ahead of the week, Wednesdays are data deep dives, and Fridays spotlight the leaders moving this space. Tony now has his own newsletter too, if you want to help your customers own their talent strategy. Here's what I'm watching this week (Access all stories):
Here's what I think this means for the industry: 1. As we keep saying, AI is only HALF the answer. It's an incredibly powerful half. But it needs the right talent strategy to not fall victim to being in the 95% of initiatives that don't scale beyond pilots. The other half is YOU. It's not staffing. It's not temp agencies or BPOs. It's flexible talent platforms and EORs. 2. The talent market is still weird. We all have friends who were laid off last week, last month, and more. Yet the unemployment claims hasn't been this low since 1969? That's weird right? I'm not the economist here (Tony is), but it's clear that the talent industry has lost the plot. Which comes back to you. You are now the plot. While talent shortages maintain, you have abundant, specialized talent pools that can be deployed in ways that don't bet the farm on unicorns (FTEs) or excessive margins (agencies/staffing). 3. The talent industry continues its consolidation and innovation. We're still seeing a new solution every week. With new solutions having new models. Some are switching to subscriptions over placement fees or percentages. And the EOR industry is still booming while buyers get more confused on what's really different about each solution. Take our open sourced EOR pricing page. 4. Every traditional talent provider is forced to have a build/buy investment, with traditional talent solutions ranging from staffing, to VMSs, to even talent marketplaces and EORs themselves. It's why Beeline acquired MBO Partners. Why Randstad Digital acquired Torc. Even traditional talent marketplaces like Upwork and Toptal have been in acquisition mode. Here's how Human Cloud is helping: We break down the resistance to adoption. Our media has been the education layer. Our executive team has deployed $1b+ flexible talent spend. Now our platform is the connection layer, making it easy for buyers to find and deploy you, overcoming the "no one gets fired for hiring accenture" barrier.
This week in our community call we'll continue this conversation. Can't wait to see you! If you can't come, or you're not in the community, reply and let's chat. - Matt
